WHEN A GOOD GIRL'S GONE BAD, SHE'S GONE FOREVER...

I still see the pictures of Rihanna in my head, when she started off with her large low-cut jeans and little tank tops with her boxers showing. Who would've ever thought that she'd turn out the way she did today? It's amazing how celebrities' styles can change... especially with the help of a stylist, makeup artist and hair stylist. At the Paris Fashion Week S/S 2010... Rihanna's outfits made jaws drop, the one after the other. It's hard for me to be an honest critique when it comes to celebrities, because one can never quite know whether it's their style that governs what they wear or whether it's someone else telling them what they should or should not wear. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on this one, and assuming it's all her... then her going bad is definitely for the better... she does tend to show a little too much skin with her transparent minidresses but at least it suits her image. My favourite is the last picture... her outfit at the Chanel S/S 2010 show...

SIMPLICITY

I think I've repeated it more than I've needed to... simplicity is key and I think I'm gonna carry on repeating it until people actually get it... I don't know why people are so concerned with adding so many things to their outfit just to show that they know what's trendy... yes, if you're reading this , you probably know that trilbies, wayfarers and bright colours are trendy but that doesn't mean you have leave your house looking like you got dressed in the dark, seriously. Today I went to the library to do some revision for my exams next week (yeah I know, I don't know how I got the time to do this post) and I saw a group of girls... not only were they feeling themselves a little too much for my liking but looking like Christmas trees while doing... poor things... They were all wearing the weirdest combinations of fluorescent colours with these, hats and multicoloured fake-wannabe wayfarers... and a bunch of accessories... you see the picture... their outfits were so busy that u didn't even know where to look and what to focus on... what really grates me about that is that there's been this 'I wanna be pharrell williams' movement in johannesburg (South Africa) and the rest of the world for that matter, ever since pharrell launched his Billionaire Boys Club and BAPE labels. As much as I loved those labels ... people really killed them with no mercy... and one can't even bring the 'expressing yourself through fashion' argument because... that's just emulating what you see on someone else... it just shows how people lack a sense of personality... the group of girls I saw outside the library were a perfect example of that... not one of them looked different from the others... they were just little clones of each other... All I'm saying is... just be careful when following a trend... be yourself and remember... simplicity is key... take Ashley Olsen's example

IF HEELS COULD KILL

Now these are what I call... killer heels... if you look closely you'll see that the shoe is made up of many strands that are twisted... I tried to find out where Lorraine got these shoes and all she could reply was:'My boyfriend got them for me'... mediocre response... really not what I wanted to hear

I RECOGNIZE CLASS WHEN I SEE IT...

When: Wednesday 14th October 2009
Where: Mugg & Bean, Sandton City, JHB

This gentleman was quietly reading his newpaper and drinking his coffee... I couldn't resist... I had to approach him with my camera and ask if he could pose for a quick picture... and he kindly said: 'yes.'

LITLLE MISS DAISY

Daisy Lowe, renouned party girl and socialite belonging to the Alice Dellal and Pixie Geldof crew, always gives off a sense of nonchalance when being photograhed in any season's 'it' pieces... and I feel like her style gives off the same sense. In an industry that is obsessed with every little creation from top designers... She'll just wear the clothes like she was born in a 'Balmain' trophy jacket and Louboutin cuissardes...

This outfit is so fresh...yet so simple... I could see myself in it

The 'cuissardes' ie knee-high boots... are so 'femme fatale'... these boots just make me feel powerful
You'll see from the following pictures how much Ms Lowe is attached to her black tights...

THE BAG LADY'S GONE CRAZY

So I was doing some window shopping in Sandton Square (JHB) earlier this week and stumbled upon these beautiful bags from Robot...
I love the studs on this bags and the fact that its made out of animal skin... you can only notice it when you get really close.... hence the zoom... its beautiful and classy

Snakeskin has been a favourite this season an dthe previous one... we've been seeing in bags, shoes, jackets... skirts... anything really and in all colours... I'm just loving and enjoying it... you cannot go wrong with this bag... it's a great accessory to an outfit

More 'faux' snakeskin demonstarted here...

This tan leather bag is great because of its simplicity... tan is a great colour for belts, shoes ( I saw so many pictures of men where tan shoes without socks... and I loved it) I specifically like leather tan jackets... so chic

I love anything 'matelassé' be it bags or shoes or any piece of clothing! There's no exception here... I fell in love with this electrying colour...

MUSE IN THE MAKING

What happens when a music legend and a fashion icon decide to procreate... well... eaxctly this happens. Say hello to Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger's daughter: Georgia May Jagger. This gapped-toothed, Brigitte Bardot lookalike is but starting out in the fashion industry and designers from all over the world want her... Something tells me that she'll be around for a while and she's only 17...

MAMMA MIA... MARGHERITA!

I took some time off from studying... I really needed it... to do a little post on one of my favourite style icons, I really do think Margherita Missoni deserves that title as she's always looks so well put together with that element of effortlessness about her. That's probably what I love mso about all those women that I consider to be fashion icons, like Kate Moss for example. However you still get the icons that do look so well put together and do look like they spent some time calculating exactly what they will wear like Olivia Palermo for example, but that's not any worse. A fashion icon is a fashion icon after all...
